Barrett Brown wins National Magazine Award for prison columns

Barrett Brown has been nominated for a National Magazine Award in the Columns and Commentary category, for three of his columns at The Intercept.

The Ellie Awards, honouring excellence in the magazine industry, are sponsored by by the American Society of Magazine Editors and administered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

The Columns and Commentary category “honors political and social commentary; news analysis; and reviews and criticism.” Barrett’s nominated columns are “Stop Sending Me Jonathan Franzen Novels”, “A Visit to the Sweat Lodge” and “Santa Muerte, Full of Grace.” Fellow nominees include Rebecca Solnit and Teju Cole.
